The Show Must Go On


I am Shivaram From Retail Gurukul, Bangalore.

We trust that you, your family, friends, and family are safe and taking all precautions in this time of crisis.

Businesses wise, family-wise, lifestyle-wise a fundamental change is happening. It is said, this is the 3rd restructuring that is taking place in the last 100 years.

The first was the 1029 Great Depression, then the 2007 Great Recession and now this is called 2021 Great Restructuring.

The way we have been even able to open our own shops, interact with our families, employees, customers have all changed. IE the impact on Work, Workplace( shops and offices), and Workforce (employees).

This Great Restructuring is comprehensive, because no industry, no company, and no country are isolated.

Every one of us has been impacted either at a personal, family, or business level or in some cases in all the 3 areas significantly.

Yet, just like Dr. K.K.Agarwal, the famous Doctor “THE SHOW MUST GO ON”.  I trust you are making changes in the way you have been viewing the business for 2021 and beyond.

Unfortunately, based on the many interactions I am having with 100’s jewellers during GJC’s Lapham workshops and our own Retail Gurukul workshops, we see a majority of the businesses are waiting for the “market” to reopen so that they can go back to their business.

In the hope that it will be back to normal soon! But, we all know, in our hearts and minds, the world has changed and we all need to adapt or accept that someone else adapted better to the situation and G.R.O.Wed their business.

Yes, there is a lot to do, even when we are all locked inside our homes which is preparing our business for the future.

We have one important advantage, which we never had. That is time to think and plan – What was going right in our business and what was going wrong.

For example, one of my clients, who has been in the business for over 30+ years with a combination of own and borrowed funds, identified a major “cost” of interest outgo which we have now found a way to reduce, and reduce significantly.

This would not have been possible, if we had not discussed in-depth, due to the free time he now has.

And it does not matter,  the shop is not open for the full 10 hours.

So, my urge to you is to take the benefit of the free time that is now available and Restructure your business plans, identify old and new problems and work on new opportunities like Online Business, etc.
